We have all heard the phrase “just enough” in the workplace. To have no incentive, no goal, and nothing extra is simply a waste of the job. By doing “just enough” you admit you are only able to do what is absolutely necessary and not a speck more. It can be an indication that you have hit a plateau and it could show your customers that you are not interested in more business from them. No one wants that perception to be placed on them and especially not on their business. We all have to be proactive in not falling into the mentality that enough is enough; it’s just not. One of the main things I do to increase my customer retention is to directly do more than what was initially asked. If my customer asks for a banner with their logo on it I will do that but I will also build in some sort of background to that banner. That simple change helps to call out the banner itself and if the colors are pulled from the logo then the branding is shown more clearly. I do simple, small things like this to demonstrate to my customer that they have an added value in Dapper doing their graphic design. Not only will I do what is asked of me I will also keep going forward from there. I won’t just complete the bare bone request and move on. This is not to say that I look to bleed out my profits because that is counter-productive to the goal in finding additional value for my customer. If it’s me going a little further on a design, connecting my customers with new products, or introducing them to additional ways of streamlining what they are already doing I have directly shown them they are getting more from me. Don’t let yourself or your employees go about the day without some sort of incentive to stay away from doing “just enough”.
